Kid Friendly Activities in Brisbane

Looking For Something Fun To Do With The Grandkids In Brisbane? Here Are Some Ideas

Visit GOMA Children’s Art Centre

Taking kids to an art gallery may sound like a nightmare waiting to happen, but GOMA isn’t your average ‘no touching’ art gallery. The GOMA children’s art centre works alongside artists to create installations that are interactive and kid friendly. They offer a range of activities for kids and families to enjoy. If your grandchild is still a toddler, you can take them along to toddler Tuesday where games, storytelling and activities are used to make learning about art fun. Entry to the Children’s Art Centre is free.

Get Learning At The Sciencentre & Museum

While you are in the area, drop by Sciencentre and Museum right next door to GOMA. You and the kids can explore these highly educational and interactive spaces created specifically to teach kids about history, geography and the world around them. The museum has a range of interesting exhibits on everything from dinosaurs to Australian wildlife. At the Sciencenter, kids can participate in a range of fun activities introducing them through play-based learning, to the wonders of science.

See A Live Show

There is nothing like the excitement of seeing a live show when you’re a kid. Brisbane has an abundance of kid-friendly theatre, from the larger show-stopping productions available at QPAC, to the smaller more interactive show commonly available at the Powerhouse.

Hang Out With Some Wildlife

Brisbane has a range of parks, farms, and zoo on offer for the little animal lover in your family. Engage you grandchild in a discussion about their favourite animal and use this information to pick where to visit on your next day out. Do they like Koalas? Perhaps a trip to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is in order. If they like pigs and farm animals, they might get a kick out of White Ridge Farm, in Elimbah. There aren’t many animals that you won’t be able to find at Australia Park Zoo just a short drive from Brisbane.

The Workshops Rail Museum

If your grandchild enjoys playing with toy trains, they are sure to have a blast at The Workshop Rail Museum in Ipswich. Here they will not only have the chance to go for a ride on a real life steam train, but they can also engage in a range of fun kid-friendly activities that are educational as well as entertaining.

Take A Mini Break On An Island

If you’ve got a whole day to spare, why not take a day trip over to over to Stradbroke Island just is a short ferry ride from Cleveland. The kids can spend the day playing on the beach while you soak up the serenity. After a fresh fish and chip lunch, take a walk along the gorge walk where you can often spot whales, dolphins, turtles and other marine life.

Visit The Planetarium

What could be more fascinating to a child then the wonders of the universe? At the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium kids can learn all about the stars, planets and everything else up in the sky. See re-creations of the night sky in the cosmic skydome, fragments of asteroids and spacecraft models, and watch short feature shows.
